Nintendo Switch Was the Company’s Biggest Selling European Hardware Launch, Ever
Zelda: Breath of the Wild also sets the standard in software
The launch weekend of any system is typically useful in gauging initial interest and – for the manufacturer – is a chance to drum up early positive headlines. In those respects it seems that the Nintendo Switch is delivering rather nicely for the big N.
Following reports of a ‘new high’ in launch weekend sales in North America and a solid start in Japan, Nintendo of Europe has now positioned the Switch as its most successful hardware launch. It also highlights the performance of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on Switch as setting a new benchmark in the region.
We can confirm that, across Europe, Nintendo Switch sold more in its launch weekend than any other Nintendo hardware in history.
Launch title The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has not only been bestowed with some of the highest review scores in gaming history, it’s also the biggest-selling Nintendo launch title ever in Europe, even outselling Wii Sports in first weekend sales.
And all this in March – traditionally a quiet time for the games industry.
As mentioned previously, it’s worth noting that factors such as these are impacted by stock availability, which should be acknowledged when comparing multiple generations of hardware sales. That said, it’s definitely encouraging to see positive landmarks from the first few days of the Nintendo Switch being on store shelves.
Are you pleased by these sales landmarks and optimistic about the prospects for the Switch?
